Imagine that one day you wake up with a road on which thousands of trucks, trailers and cars pass directly in front of your house. This is what happened to Oradeans from Gheorghe Doja, Podgoria streets and the residents of Fughiu and Săldăbagiu de Munte, the route on which the North Metropolitan Ring will pass.

Following the discussions and meetings with the citizens of the area, USR Bihor launched a petition addressed to the Bihor County Council and the Oradea City Hall requesting the urgent review of the route proposed for the construction of the Northern Metropolitan Ring and its relocation through the outskirts of the Ineu township.

According to the documentation made by SC Term SRL, the current route would have devastating consequences on local communities and the environment. “The noise, air, water and soil pollution will significantly damage the quality of life of the inhabitants and will seriously affect the Natura 2000 site and the protected area of the Pauline Medieval Monastery of Sf. Ieronim in Fuguhiu”, said Alex Orjan, USR candidate for the Bihor County Council.

Although it is a bypass, the main purpose of which is to reduce the impact of traffic on residential areas, 70% of the current route will pass through residential areas with houses and gardens. When they built this ring for them it was not in the plan.

In addition, the route does not comply with the provisions of OG 43/1997 regarding the creation of detours outside the towns, endangering the legality of the entire project.

The current proposal, which brings thousands of cars and heavy traffic to the area, thus pollution, risks compromising the integrity of the Natura 2000 site and the protected area of the Pauline Medieval Monastery of Sf. Ieronim in Fuguiu. Moreover, the proposed segments are prone to landslides, which could lead to major incidents.

Following the detailed analysis of the situation, USR Bihor proposes an alternative route that passes through the outskirts of Ineu, thus avoiding dense residential areas and protected sites. This variant would have significantly reduced construction costs and would allow a harmonious development of Oradea and the metropolitan area.

USR Bihor requests the Bihor County Council and the Oradea City Hall to seriously review the SC Term SRL proposal and consider the alternative option that would benefit the entire community. It is essential that development projects are implemented with respect for residents and the environment.

To support this cause, residents are encouraged to sign the petition by visiting THIS LINK.

Choosing an optimal route for the Northern Metropolitan Ring is not only a logistical necessity, but also a moral duty to the community and the environment.

“Today’s decisions will shape tomorrow’s Oradea. It’s time for solutions that focus on the well-being and sustainable development of our city”, said Daniel Palaghianu, USR candidate for Oradea City Hall.

In order to draw attention to the North Metropolitan Ring route, on Wednesday (May 8, 4:30 p.m.) the residents of the Podgoria neighborhood will organize a flashmob, which USR Oradea supports.
