The bill that costs a fortune
The banknote is 145 millimeters wide and 72 millimeters high. The edition of fifty lei banknotes appeared after the Romanian state acquired the name RSR – Romanian Socialist Republic (in 1965). Banknotes with AI Cuza’s effigy appeared a year later. Such a banknote is highly sought after by collectors. On OLX, a user comes up with this 5,000 lei note, negotiable.
Another banknote that is worth a lot
And the 100 lei banknote from 1966, which shows the face of Nicolae Bălcescu, is in great demand and is sold for a huge amount. For example, a user asks for 3,000 lei for a hundred lei banknote from 1966. “I am selling a 100 lei banknote from 1966 – 3,000 lei easily negotiable,” the ad says.
The 100 lei banknote from 1966 has a width of 153 millimeters and a height of 75 millimeters. On the back of the banknote is the Romanian Athenaeum. The portrait of Nicolae Bălcescu is printed on her face, on the left side. The coat of arms is on the right.
A 500 lei coin is sold for 1,800 lei
Another Romanian sells the 500 lei coin from 1999 for 1,800 lei. “I am selling a 500 lei coin from 1999. Very good condition. Negociable price. I send anywhere in the country with delivery via Olx”, the ad states. The coin has a diameter of 25 millimeters and a thickness of 3.20 millimeters. The 500 lei coin weighs 3.7 grams and is made of Aluminum-Magnesium (AlMg3).
