VIDEO. Smart speed limiter installed at Snagov

--

The first intelligent speed limiter in Romania was installed at Snagov, which only stops drivers who violate the speed limit in the area.

An innovative device was implemented on the county road in Ghermănești, Ilfov county, for the safety of pedestrians. It uses sensors mounted in the asphalt to detect vehicles traveling at excessive speed around the pedestrian crossing. When the sensors detect a speed greater than 30 kilometers per hour, the bumper rises 6.5 centimeters, warning drivers to slow down. The technology was imported from Mexico and is being used for the first time in Romania, representing an important step for increasing road safety in areas with heavy traffic.

“There is a “Caution, pedestrian crossing” zone on the roadway. A sensor is mounted in the asphalt exactly there. If it respects the speed, forget it respects it, lights up green, starts to lower the bumper, the traffic participant passes without any problem. Someone came at a very high speed, even with a jeep, and than he ran over him, it’s really not ok for the car, but the car kept its normal trajectory”, said the mayor of Snagov commune, according to stirileprotv.ro.

The intelligent speed limiter could also reach the Pipera area near the Capital.

The technology imported from Mexico and implemented in Romania was brought to Europe by a Romanian engineer. He contributed to the installation of the smart speed limiter in the Ghermănești area, Ilfov county, where the device was installed free of charge, as part of a pilot project. Even if the installation of this type of one-way limiter would involve an estimated cost of 130,000 lei, the community of Ghermănești benefited from this initiative without incurring any expenses.
