A commune in Ilfov County is the first town in Romania where an intelligent speed limiter was installed. The device has sensors, identifies the speed from a distance and lets only those who respect the speed limit pass.
In the area of Ghermanesti, in Ilfov, where the system will be installed, the speed limit is 30 kilometers per hour. Although the school is right in the center of the town, and many children and parents cross the zebra crossing, some drivers step on the accelerator without taking into account the restriction.
Local authorities have installed a limiter with sensors that allows only drivers who respect the legal speed to pass. A sign will be installed 160 meters before the threshold that should make drivers slow down. He announces that he is following a smart system.
Mihai Anghel, mayor of Snagov commune: It is not a purchased model, it is a prototype that is implemented in Romania for the first time in Snagov commune. We have come to the conclusion that it is necessary to mount such a smart bumper here in the school area.
Felix Horațiu Șerb, the director of the company that brought the technology to Romania: The system consists of some warning panels, sensors and a reducing threshold. Practically, this reducing threshold is raised when the sensors detect that drivers respect the speed, this bumper lowers.
The innovative system was used for the first time in Mexico, and the technicians there came to ensure that the device installed in the commune of Ilfov would work.

Juan Carlos Ortiz, representative of the company that developed the technology: We have eight prototypes in Mexico that have helped a lot in road safety. In Mexico people don’t respect the speed, but where we implemented the system, more than 95% respect the speed.
The company plans to test smart speed limiters in other busy cities in Romania.
