Even on Easter, the workers in charge of the construction of the Sibiu – Pitesti Highway were on duty. On Sunday, May 5, the first day of Easter, everyone had the opportunity to participate in a festive meal, where the foreigners had the opportunity to learn from their Romanian colleagues to say “Christ is Risen” in Romanian.

Almost 400 people are involved in the works on the two tunnels between Pitesti and Curtea de Argeş, writes Observator. The first one-kilometer section of the gallery has already been excavated by workers from 14 different countries.

Workers on the construction site of the Sibiu – Pitesti highway, from various countries, including Romania, Croatia, Slovakia, Austria and Germany, spent Easter at work. During their breaks, they enjoyed sarmales, red eggs and cozonac between excavators and concrete mixers.

Work is being done in shifts on the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway

Adrian Boboiu is away from his family for the first time this Easter. He works in shifts, both day and night, at the first kilometer of the highway tunnel in Romania, near Curtea de Argeş, according to the cited source.

“It’s really the first time I’ve been away for the holidays. It’s strange… to be away from home so… I don’t even have words. There were some colleagues who collected these dishes and we invited the colleagues to enjoy with us. We are trying to make a team as united as possible”, cites Observator.

The 14-kilometer section, Sibiu – Boita, is completed

The Sibiu – Pitesti highway is divided into five lots, and the first 14-kilometer section, Sibiu – Boita, is already completed. Three other lots are in the works and one is in the design stage. The construction of this highway, valued at 3,200,000,000 euros, is scheduled to be completed in four years.

The project includes 12 major structures such as bridges and viaducts, with the longest viaduct being approximately 650 meters. The estimated completion date is 2026, but work is progressing, although there have been difficulties related to sandy areas. The highway will be 122 kilometers long, connecting Muntenia with Transylvania and connecting to the highway network to the West.

“There are still 12 structures, bridges, passages, viaducts. The longest viaduct on this sector is around 650 meters. The deadline is in 2026, now we are ahead of the deadline even if there were some problems encountered with sand areas”, said Ionel Scrioşteanu, State Secretary of the Ministry of Transport.

The current road between Pitesti and Sibiu, DN7, is among the busiest in the country, with approximately 65,000 cars per day and an average speed of 35 km/h.
