Marco Albanese, an Italian settled in Romania for over 20 years, inaugurated the first greenhouse – supermarket in the country. Tens of thousands of decorative plants are prepared for sale in the huge glass construction.

The Albanese family’s greenhouse is located in Buzau and functions like a mall. More than 20,000 garden flowers, indoor plants, shrubs and aromatic plants, as well as decorations and accessories found their place on shelves and in pots.

“It is quite a large space, it is very airy, which allows the flowers to live well. The idea is to walk in a garden, indoors, but which also allows for a pleasant environment.

We have 200 species of plants, for indoor and outdoor use, brought from Poland, Romania and Italy, as well as bonsai brought from Asia”, said Marco Albanese – greenhouse owner.

“You come and take what you like and how you like it”

Customers are fascinated by the new concept.

“Something new, beautifully arranged. Very nice,” said one customer.

“You come and take what you like and how you like it. And when you have time, you are not conditioned by any particular schedule. I haven’t seen it before and I think there aren’t many such locations in the country either,” says another customer.

The ventilation system, heating with pellets, photovoltaic panels and the shading system are some of the utilities that keep the thousands of plants in the greenhouse alive.

Responsible for its operation is Luca, Marco’s son.

“We have the electricity from solar panels, we have the installation done, we have 40 kilowatts that keeps the power supply from the entire greenhouse.

The curtains are specialized for shade, to protect the heat”, said S. Luca Albanese – greenhouse manager.

Marco settled in Buzău over two decades ago, after his appointment as director of a clothing factory. For more than five years, he has been working on the flower house project, a dream of the whole family that has come true.

“I worked in insurance and collaborated with him on insurance. Knowing that he was making this greenhouse, I thought it would be a very beautiful thing, and a very beautiful collaboration between me and him”, says Laura Costin – collaborator.

Marco Albanese and his family have big plans. They want to build two more huge greenhouses, all supplied with electricity and heat from wind turbines and solar panels, and then establish flower crops on large areas so as to secure goods for export as well.
