The first kilometer of the highway tunnel in Romania was drilled, on the Tigveni-Curtea de Argeș section of the Sibiu Pitesti highway, announced the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Transport Ionel Scrioșteanu.

A total of 1013 meters were drilled in both directions of the highway, of which 580 meters of tunnel on the exit line from the tunnel, direction Sibiu-Pitesti (Daniela Tunnel) and 433 meters of tunnel on the line entering the tunnel, direction Pitești-Sibiu (Tunel Alina), wrote Scrioșteanu on Facebook.

He added that the first intermediate tunnel that will be used as a pedestrian passage between the two lines of the Alina and Daniela tunnels or an escape route after opening to traffic has also been completed.

Excavation and earthworks are also being carried out on several sectors related to the Țigveni road junction. The drilling, reinforcement and concreting of the 20,500 ml of piles required for the structures related to this highway section was completed and the execution of the piles required for one of the tunnel threads began.

Scrioșteanu also writes that 7 out of 16 footbridge foundations were completed, 41,000 cubic meters of concrete needed for the structures were poured and the technological roads were completed.

“Continues the production of beams and prefabricated pallets needed for the structures in the organization of the construction site, 32 prefabricated beams and approx. 3000 m2 of prefabricated pallets have been produced so far. Drilling, reinforcement and concreting of small-diameter piles to improve the foundation ground continue, being 85% completed,” the official added.

“The contractor has mobilized 590 workers and 185 machines on the site, and the works will continue during the Easter holidays. The construction of the tunnel is being worked on 24 hours a day. The mobilization is good, and the advance compared to the contracted schedule is increasing”, said Scrioșteanu.
