The Romanian Gymnastics Federation collected 300,000 euros, from donations, following the appeal launched in December 2023, through an article from Europa Liberă. From this amount, the Federation bought new equipment for the national and Olympic artistic gymnastics teams.

At the beginning of December 2023, the president of the Romanian Gymnastics Federation, Carmencita Constantin, sounded the alarm: on the threshold of the Olympic year, with the return of the women’s team to the Olympic Games, after a 12-year break, the institution’s funds were exhausted. The Romanian Gymnastics Federation did not even have money in its accounts for the athletes’ camps abroad, in gymnasiums equipped with equipment similar to the ones the girls will compete on in Paris, in August.

The call had unexpected results. Including companies that have never made a donation, they knocked on the door of the Federation to ask how and with what they can help.

Thus, 300,000 euros were collected, says the president of the Gymnastics Federation, at Free Europe.

Carmencita Constantin says that she decided, from the collected donations, to buy new gymnastics equipment for the main training room of the gymnasts from the Olympic team, from the “Sydney 2000” Complex in Izvorani.

Thus, until the summer Olympics, the Federation will no longer be obliged to send the team abroad and there will no longer be a need for expensive travel.

At the Paris Olympics, which begin on July 26 and last until August 11, the women’s gymnastics team will compete in all apparatus.

The Gymnastics Federation proposed the qualification of the female team in the finals, i.e. in the top eight, but also the qualification of at least one gymnast in the individual compound finals and the qualification of as many athletes as possible in the finals on at least two apparatuses.

The extended Olympic female gymnastics team is composed of 15 athletes: Ana Bărbosu, Maria Ceplinschi, Lilia Cosman, Ioana Danciu, Amalia Ghigoartă, Ella Oprea Creţu, Andreea Preda, Laura Jurca (coaches Patrick Kienes, Corina Moroşan, Florin Cotuţiu, Daymon Jones) , Sabrina Maneca Voinea, Amalia Puflea (coaches Camelia Voinea, Cristian Moldovan and Lăcrămioara Moldovan), Alexia Vânoagă, Miruna Botez, Alexandra Florea, Teodora Stoian and Bianca Vişovan (coaches Carmen Traicu, Ciprian Creţu).

Only a part of them will go to the Summer Olympics – the final team will be selected in June.
