A violent storm, accompanied by hail and strong wind, wreaked havoc in western Europe. A woman died in France after being swept away by a flood. Hundreds of planes were grounded and tens of hectares of crops were destroyed by golf ball-sized hail. The fury of nature was also felt in the British neighbors, where a lightning struck an old people’s home near London. From tomorrow the wave of storms will also reach us.

The streets of northern France were covered with a thick layer of ice after 4 hours of hail. The storm started at 9 o’clock, and by midnight dozens of streets in 19 departments that were under code orange were completely flooded. 20,000 lightning bolts lit up the sky during the storm. One of the lightning bolts struck the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The storm paralyzed hundreds of planes on the ground, and the aircraft that were supposed to land in Paris were diverted to Brussels, Lyon or Amsterdam. Streams of water flowed through the airport.

In a locality near Paris, a 57-year-old woman lost her life in a landslide. Her husband was injured, but managed to save himself at the limit.

The storm also hit Great Britain

More than 35,000 thunders were heard, and a bolt of lightning struck a nursing home in the town of Emer. Across the country, trains were delayed due to power outages caused by the storm.

The unusual storm came amid extremely high temperatures for the UK. It was 22 degrees, a record value for this period.

The fury of nature was also felt in western Germany. The cities of Dusseldorf, Frankfurt and Stuttgart are still under red code for bad weather – hail, torrential rain, thunder and lightning. Meteorologists estimate that in the coming days the same storm will also reach us.
