The National Youth Day is celebrated on May 2. The marking of this day was established by Law no. 425/2004.
The legislative project regarding the decree of this day was initiated in 2004, by 15 deputies representing all parliamentary political formations, writes Agerpres.ro.
Rejected by the Senate on April 1, 2004, the legislative proposal was adopted by the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies, decision-making body in this case, on October 5, 2004, and Law no. 425 regarding the establishment of this day was adopted on October 25, 2004.

The first city designated as the Youth Capital of Romania was Timisoara, which held this status between May 2, 2016 and May 1, 2017, the 2017 edition of the program being held under the High Patronage of the President of Romania, Klaus Iohannis. Starting from May 2, 2017, the Youth Capital of Romania was the municipality of Bacău, until May 1, 2018.
In November 2017, during the 2nd edition of the Youth Summit, which took place in Bacău, Baia Mare was designated the Youth Capital of Romania for the period May 2, 2018-May 1, 2019.
