The ban takes effect on May 3. It becomes illegal in Romania

--

Strict rules before Easter. Everything May is allowed only until May 3rd. After that, a nationwide ban will come into effect. Here’s what it’s all about, exactly? Romanians have no choice and must respect.

Great attention to all those who buy lamb these days

There are only a few days left until Easter and many Romanians are flocking to buy lamb. However, they must be well aware of the rules they must follow, in order not to get into trouble with the law or health problems.

More precisely, it is important to know where we can buy lamb meat safely, from sources that have been verified by veterinary health.

Ioan Oleleu, vice-president of ANSVSA (National Veterinary Sanitary and Food Safety Authority), came with important clarifications. The official says that lambs can be slaughtered, these days, only in temporarily functioning centers organized by the authorities. They are under strict sanitary and veterinary control.

Who organizes them and when will they close?

Who has the right to organize them? Well, we’re talking about:

  • town halls,
  • professional associations,
  • or individual farmers.

We remind you that these centers or fairs have a limited period of operation. More precisely, according to the imposed rules, the operation of the temporary places for slaughtering lambs will cease on Friday, May 3, at 17:00.

They were opened on April 22 and operate between 07:00 and 17:00.

There are also slaughterhouses where lambs are slaughtered and, obviously, shops where you can buy the meat

They are not the only places where we can buy lamb meat for Easter. The upper level is represented by the authorized units. We are talking about slaughterhouses, small or large capacity. Finally, one can go directly to specialized stores or hypermarkets to buy the desired meat.

“Farmers nationwide can slaughter their lambs in temporary slaughter centers that can be set up in the run-up to the Easter holidays, units that are under veterinary health control.

These centers can be organized by town halls, professional associations or individual farmers. All these cases are intended for sale and purchase from that center.

The next level is the authorized units, whether we are talking about small-capacity slaughterhouses or large-capacity slaughterhouses, which purchase animals from farmers, slaughter them, and put them on established marketing networks, whether we are talking about specialized stores or hypermarkets” , explained Ioan Oleleu for AgroTV.

Currently, it is possible for one to procure veterinary sanitary supervised lamb from temporary slaughter centers or points directly from the producer.

Then it can be purchased from the authorized and registered sanitary and veterinary units, such as stores, districts or agro-food markets, which have adequate facilities for the sale of sheep carcasses, concluded the ANSVSA representative.

Did you break the law? Here are the penalties

Ioan Oleleu also spoke about the sanctions that those who do not follow the rules risk. We are talking here about those who ignore the legislation regarding the slaughtering and marketing of lambs during this period.

Those who sell lamb under conditions other than those established by law risk fines and even criminal charges. Furthermore, the products they were trying to sell would be confiscated.

“The sanctions are very high, from the confiscation of products, contraventional sanctions and in certain situations, depending on the complexity, the volumes and the way in which this act was produced, it can reach criminal files, criminal investigations.

We usually meet these events where certain holdings are under sanitary and veterinary restrictions and are only allowed to trade under certain very strict conditions”, the vice-president of ANSVSA also indicated.
