This summer, in Pitesti, work begins on the first stadium in Romania that will have zero energy consumption during matches, thanks to photovoltaic panels and state-of-the-art heat pumps. The future “Nicolae Dobrin” stadium will be the most modern in our country, able to host European cup matches as well.

The ultra-modern arena will be built on the site of the old “Nicolae Dobrin” stadium, whose demolition was completed earlier this year. This is after this week the memorandum was approved by the Government in a meeting that practically gives the green light to the start of the construction of the future “Nicolae Dobrin” stadium in Pitesti.

The execution contract with the winning company – Erbașu Construcții – will be signed in the following period, also then the organization of the construction site will begin.

“The project of the future stadium is extremely important, including for the economy of Pitesti. It is the biggest project that will be realized in Pitesti with non-refundable funds, almost 100 million euros. We have a very low co-financing of 1.7%. It wasn’t easy at all, but I made it and I’m very happy. After the approval of the memorandum, we will sign the contract with the company that won the tender in the following period. In the summer of this year, the actual works on the future stadium will begin, the execution term being a maximum of 26 months”declared for “Adevărul” Cristian Gentea, the mayor of Pitesti.

Basically, the new stadium in Pitesti will be ready by the fall of 2026.

The future stadium, the most modern in Romania, will bear the full name “Nicolae Dobrin” and will actually be a state-of-the-art sports complex with 15,200 seats, of which 255 will be for the disabled and their companions.

The future Pitesti arena will also have 232 seats for journalists and will be UEFA 4 certified, being eligible to host international football competitions at the highest level, including Champions League or Europa League matches. All stands of the future stadium in Pitesti will be covered.

It should also be said that almost a third of the energy required for the operation of the future stadium in Pitesti will be provided by renewable sources, which will have hundreds of photovoltaic panels. State-of-the-art propane heat pumps will also contribute to low maintenance costs. Thanks to numerous photovoltaic panels and heat pumps, energy consumption will be zero on match days.

The stadium car park will have approximately 500 spaces, of which 20 will be for electric cars only.

Special attention will be paid to green spaces. Of the total area of ​​the sports complex, more than 60% will be represented by green spaces. Within the future sports complex, the Children’s and Junior Center of FC Argeș will be set up, with 10 changing rooms in total.

Inaugurated in 1964, the old stadium in Pitesti was alternately named “1 Mai” and “Municipal”, and from 2003, by decision of the City Council, it received the name of Nicolae Dobrin, one of the greatest football players of all time from Romania, declared the best footballer of the year three times, a footballer whom the great Santiago Bernabeu wanted to transfer to Real Madrid in 1972 for two million dollars, a colossal sum for those times.

Over the years, famous teams such as Real Madrid, Valencia and Sevilla were defeated by FC Argeș at the old stadium in Pitesti. In fact, FC Argeș is the only team from Romania that has ever managed to eliminate the Spaniards from Sevilla, seven times – record! – winners of the Europa League. Sevilla’s memorable elimination was in the fall of 1966, in the first round of the Fair Cities Cup, which later became the UEFA Cup and since 2010 the Europa League.
