News that we pass over very easily

Some playful drones (probably Chinese-made) walked past the American base in Mihail Kogălniceanu the other day. We don’t have, and apparently don’t want, an anti-drone law and a serious anti-espionage law that can prove and convict treason. Mihail Kogălniceanu is that military base where some domestic thugs stole $2,000,000 worth of fuel from the corrupt US federal government for several years.

One of the strangest news was that the general meeting of shareholders of Nuclearelectrica blocked the Romanian-American project of SMRs from Doicești, just when the minister of energy was out of the country. Immediately Sebastian Burduja reacted by declaring that the American SMRs are supported by his lordship.

We also look at the evolution of the Tarnița storage project, which the new SAPE siloviki buried with hatred and in spite of Mr. Burduja, the initiator and promoter of the big storage. This in the situation where the government foresees capacities of thousands of intermittent renewable MW, the last project being discussed the other day by Prime Minister Ciolacu in Qatar. It follows that the national electro-energetic system, in which not much has been invested and re-engineered in the last 30 years, will be in danger of black-out.

We also add the media attacks on Hidroelectrica and Nuclearelectrica, which together exceed 50% of the national electricity production. I still have nothing to write about the Energy Strategy, which has been missing for 15 years, because in the coming days it will appear on the website of the Ministry of Energy so that it can be discussed.

How do you say big brother in Russian?

The clear result is that there are forces that want to bring the Romanian energy industry to its knees. Not through the hard methods applied to Ukraine and described by fellow Contributors, Eugenia Gusilov, but through the soft methods of hybrid warfare: the infiltration of agents of influence and corruption, described by me some time ago also in Contributors.

And all this in the context where Romania has an important role in helping Ukraine and more than likely will have an even more important role in helping to rebuild it.

Sabina Fati analyzes the CSAT Report and some states of affairs: the Kremlin is trying to penetrate, if not succeeding, the decision-making system of the state, with several clear objectives in mind, among which we list the transport of ammunition and weapons through Romania to Ukraine, the discrediting of the army and the state leadership in general, the infiltration of spies and agents in order to penetrate critical infrastructures, as the Event of the Day also listed. Is there anyone who thinks that these actions have failed?

We learned about the Russian espionage scandal from Austria, from Bulgaria (including how former Prime Minister Boiko Borisov favored Russian gas), from Germany (and we remember the former Chancellor Gerhard Schoeder and his huge salary that he receives from Putin), or from the Netherlands .

I can’t help but remind you of Chevron’s departure from Romania due to the pressure of the “civil society Gazprom”, the “expulsion” of Exxon “from the slaughterhouse” or the media attacks on Hidroelectrica – Fondul Proprietatea – Franklin Templeton Investments.

Nobody found anything with us! Probably balshoi brat knows why!

Save Our Souls! Please!

We have a defense strategy where energy is often present. The problem is that everyone has forgotten that critical energy infrastructures need to be developed and defended. First of all, I am thinking of security energy production and storage capacities. We close the security coal production and do not put anything in place, and we want the storage ones and it seems that we will not have them in the coming years because, having a geopolitical component, someone is found to block them. The networks are old and not adapted to the new requirements imposed by the appearance of intermittent renewables (including prosumers) in the situation where most of the European money is allocated to wind and photovoltaics. Transmission and distribution networks can no longer cope, and too few raise the issue. I confess that in case of a regional or national black out I would not like to go through a pandemic because there will be no water for drinking, washing or household water.

I wrote that the current architecture of the national electric-energy system is no longer relevant after seeing how Ukraine is being destroyed by the Russian Federation. I’m not the only one raising this alarm. Fellow Contributor, Eugenia Gusilov, is of the same opinion. Cristian Felea, also a colleague of Contributors, sees the evolution of the energy industry even further. The problem is what we do until such a distant future, when we will no longer be able to ensure the demand for electricity, when the prices of a MWh vary in a day from +2000 euros on the balancing market to -60 euros on market on the next day?

I already forgot about gas extraction from the Black Sea! I asked some gentlemen from the Navy if the gas extraction platforms we dream of can be defended. The answer was given by mime and gestures. But the real answer was given by a specialist in the structures of the alliance of which we are a part: “No bank will finance such a project, as long as there is a war in the vicinity.”

Reengineering the energy industry is the only solution. Regional, local and individual energy self-sufficiency and the democratization of energy production and markets is a path we must follow because we no longer have to depend on the state unable to provide the energy supply service. – Read the entire article and comment on Contributors.ro
