The drum sounds of the Citadel Guard start the new tourist season in Alba Iulia

The tourist season officially opened on May 1, 2024, in the Alba Carolina Citadel. Also from today, Garda Apulum and Garda Cetății, unique in Romania, resumed their performances.

Starting from May 1, with the official opening of the tourist season in the Citadel, the performances of ancient historical re-enactment and the changing of the guard, so awaited by the public, resume.

The drums sound again today in the Citadel and the horses’ hooves hit the stone again. The Guard of the Citadel is ready to offer the public, tourists and Albaiulians, one of the magnetic moments of every weekend this year as well.

On Saturdays and Sundays, at 12 o’clock sharp, the Guard of the Citadel will once again make the usual rounds, from Gate III to Gate IV, in a ritual that has already become a symbol for Alba Iulia. This year’s first “outing” of the Citadel Guard, with its full arsenal, horses, uniforms, drums, rifles and flags, took place today, on May 1.
