On the very night of May 1, around 03:40, border policemen from the Territorial Service of the Timiș Border Police carried out a surveillance action and caught in the act some guides and a group of migrants, in the parking area on the highway A1, Timișoara – Arad, in the direction of Km 501.

​While the migrants were about to be boarded in a truck that was parked in the parking lot, one of the three suspected guides pulled out a knife with which he injured two of the border police officers participating in the action.

The single emergency number 112 was immediately called and a medical crew was requested to transport the two border police officers to the “Pius Brînzeu” County Emergency Clinical Hospital, in Timișoara, to provide them with specialized medical care.

Currently their condition is stable, being out of any danger. People involved in the activity of illegal migration tried to flee, but the border police acted to apprehend them.

The border police used the weapons provided, in compliance with the legal provisions, and 13 shots were fired. Eight migrants and a guide were detained, and the search for the other two suspected guides continues.

In order to find them, a search device was organized, using drone-type equipment and a special vehicle with thermal imaging. At the same time, the support of the Police Inspectorate of Timiș County was requested.
