A woman from Sibiu, in brain death, saved the lives of several people, after her organs were taken by a team of doctors from Cluj.
The woman’s family agreed to the sampling.
“Shortly before the Easter holidays, the family of a 54-year-old patient, who was clinically dead, made the noble and Christian gesture to give new hope to life to people in great suffering.
The sampling of organs was carried out within the ATI Neurosurgery Department and represents the second sampling carried out since the beginning of this year. The medical team consisting of Prof. Dr. Cristina Petrișor, the doctor responsible for identifying and supporting the donor, Dr. Adrian Prie, coordinator of the transplant and Dr. Dumitru Patraș, ATI primary physician, safely took the liver, kidneys and cornea from the patient unrecoverable.
The kidneys taken were taken over by ICUTR Cluj, having already been transplanted, while the liver was transported to the Fundeni Clinical Institute. The cornea was taken over by the Institute for Ophthalmological Emergencies in Bucharest“, stated the representatives of the Cluj County Clinical Hospital.
