--

Temporary exhibition at the Piatra-Neamt Museum of Natural Sciences:Starting today, April 30, a new exhibition entitled “Phasmids – curiosities of nature” is present in the Piatra-Neamț Museum of Natural Sciences.

During the presentation there will be 70 natural exhibits, from about 20 species, less known to the general public. This group of insects have the extraordinary ability to camouflage themselves in the face of danger so well that they can hardly be noticed and can stay still for a very long time. The species are specific to tropical and subtropical areas, these creatures impress by their very large sizes, measured in tens of centimeters and by the fact that they reproduce without mating. In these species, the presence of males is very rare or even non-existent.

The project is organized by the Neamț National Museum Complex, through the Piatra-Neamț Museum of Natural Sciences in collaboration with the Galati “Răsvan Angheluță” Natural Sciences Museum Complex.

The longest phasmid is Phobaeticus chani, found in the forests of the island of Borneo, whose dimensions are about 57 centimeters. Its relative, Phobaeticus kirbyi, known for over 100 years, measures no less than 35 centimeters”, declare the representatives of the Neamț National Museum Complex.

The exhibition can be visited until the end of August.
