The moral duty we have is to keep alive the memory of these fighters with love for the country”.

10,000 ROMANIAN SOLDIERS, KILLED IN THE WAR OF INDEPENDENCE
April 29 was declared War Veterans’ Day by Government Decision no. 1222 of October 10, 2007. The date chosen is the one on which, in 1902, King Carol I promulgated, at the request of the survivors of the War of Independence (1877-1878), the High Decree by which the title of “veteran was established for the first time war”, in accordance with the Geneva Convention of European States, in honor of the soldiers who fought in this war. In the War of Independence (1877-1878), 10,000 soldiers died out of the more than 58,000 who made up the Army of Operations, according to the official website of the National Association of War Veterans.
