This is after the City Hall installed an intelligent station to pick up and sort the garbage in the town, called “Verzulica”.

Students are encouraged to take the waste they collect to “Verzulica” and the machine gives them a “greener” (ie a ticket for each piece of waste put into the smart station).

The idea arose from the desire to have the cleanest commune in the country, says mayor Nicolae Pastor:

We keep thinking that if we want to have the cleanest commune, we have to educate people and we have identified children so that we can educate them in this regard. We kept thinking about what we could do to stimulate them, to understand what cleanliness and selective collection mean. This is where the whole project started.

At the end of the school year, the classes with the most “greenies” collected will each win a trip.

The students have already exceeded the expectations of the mayors, says Nicolae Pastor:

From the first day they already formed teams, I think they brought three tons on the first day. It has become a major competition for them, they go to the places where they know there is still garbage and come with whole bags. It is an enormous joy for us.

The intelligent station for picking up and selecting recyclable garbage was bought by the authorities with European funds, through the National Program for Recovery and Resilience (PNRR).

The cost amounted to approximately 30,000 euros.
