More than two weeks ago, more precisely on April 14, I sent to the press offices of the Ministry of Justice and the PICCJ a request for clarification regarding what at that time was a mysterious visit, together, by the heads of the two institutions precisely in Brazil, without any public agenda and in rather great secrecy.
Information had already appeared in the Brazilian press about this visit and about the remarkable delegation that went there, at public expense.
According to the Brazilians, in addition to Alina Gorghiu and Alex Florentsa, the head of the ICCJ, Alina Corina Corbu, deputy general secretary of the MoJ Cătălin Oțel, and Georgian Pop, head of the National Reserves Administration, were part of the Romanian delegation.
Totally atypical for a foreign trip, Minister Gorghiu did not request any work from any specialized department for her visit to Brazil.
I therefore requested the Ministry of Justice to specify all the details of the visit, including, of course, the costs, the full composition of the delegation and what work each member had there, as well as the reason why there was not even the slightest reference on the Minister’s public agenda on that visit.
We also requested the Public Ministry to specify the details, including the cost of public money, of the visit to Brazil by Mr. Alex Florentsa, the general prosecutor, and how many foreign visits Mr. Alex Florentza has made since the beginning of his mandate, their total duration and cost.
The next day, on April 15, I received a registration number from the PICCJ, the Ministry of Justice did not consider it necessary to do the same.
On April 25, after 10 days, the Public Ministry informed me that it still needs time.
It is hard to understand why the “work requires a longer time frame for resolution”. The costs of the visit to Brazil, completed a few days ago, were probably still on the accounting table: accommodation, plane tickets, some receipts, possibly per diem.
And if the rest of Mr. Florence’s foreign visits require so much systematization work, does it mean that they were extremely numerous and at very high costs? This is the only way to explain the difficulty of giving a punctual answer in 10 days.
The Ministry of Justice exceeded the 10-day deadline without any reaction, grossly violating Law 544 on access to information of public interest.
It would not be the first time that the Ministry of Justice led by Mrs. Gorghiu breaks the law. In January, I made a request to which he still hasn’t given me an answer. Sure, and the absence of an answer is one.
Sources in MJ say that the delay is caused by the fact that no one has the courage to take on a lie in an official response at the moment, and the real costs of the entertainment in Brazil are a bit high so as not to cause a scandal. So the work kept getting returned, maybe, maybe someone can be found to crunch the numbers.
Diplomatic sources say it was an accommodation in a luxury club with prices to match, Palácio Tangará Sao Paulo. And the one who would have taken care that everything was superlative would have been Mr. Oțel. SpotMedia.ro sources say that only the plane tickets would have cost 13 thousand lei/person.
If we draw the line, the Minister of Justice and the Attorney General are going together on an almost secret visit to Brazil, with a non-public agenda and refusing to give details about the public money costs of this trip. The Ministry of Justice is one of those whose budget does not reach the end of the year.
Moreover, two very important law enforcement institutions are breaking it and are dying to make up the truth so that two high officials are not forced to officially acknowledge how much public money they squandered on their useless taxpayer escapade.
