The Vrâncen military and the local authorities of Focșani paid tribute to the war veterans in a ceremony that took place at the Heroes’ Mausoleum in the Sud district. War Veterans’ Day was established in 2007 to commemorate April 29, when King Charles I signed the decree establishing the title of “war veteran” for former fighters in the War of Independence.

On this occasion, the military and religious wreath-laying ceremony and the military parade of the Focșani Garrison took place. Thus, the general Daniel Condruzthe commander of the Focșani Garrison, presented the message to the general Gheorghita Vlad, Chief of the Defense Staff. “April 29 is one of the most important military and national holidays. It is the day we pay tribute to the courage and devotion of those who fought for freedom, dignity and peace on behalf of our nation. We come together to honor the acts of heroism and sacrifice of war veterans“, it is stated in the message sent by the commander of the Garrison.

prefect Marius Iorga sent the message to the Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu: “Romania honors (…) war veterans who wrote the path to independence and freedom of our country. We have a place to call home thanks to those who, through sacrifice, defended all that belongs to us and all that we love. To the veterans of venerable age, whom we are privileged to have among us, I wish them health and long life in the midst of grateful families and communities.

Eternal memory to the veterans we honor, cheers to the few surviving veterans of World War II!“, the Prime Minister’s message states. The message of the county administration was sent by the vice president of the Vrancea County Council, Ionel the Great. “Our thoughts go out, with appreciation and gratitude, to all those who defended the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Romania, even here, on the plains of Vrancea, during the First and Second World Wars.

Eternal witnesses of these historical battles that took place in Vrancea are the mausoleums of heroes from Mărășești, Mărăști, Soveja and Focșani, our county being unique thanks to these monuments dedicated to our heroes“, the vice-president of the County Council sent, Ionel the Great.

The mayor of Focșani, Cristi Misailăshowed that War Veteran’s Day is a gesture of recognition and honoring those who fought on the battlefield for Romania to be a free, independent and democratic state.”A self-respecting people is bound to honor its past, its special historical acts, and all those who, over time, have contributed to those moments that define each individual nation.

And it is natural that it should be so, because the present is built on the past, and the future is built on what is happening today. For every people, war veterans are those who, despite advanced age, inherent diseases or the sequelae acquired on the battlefield, continue to remind us day by day that each of us has a huge responsibility towards the Nation and the Country!

With the hope that tomorrow will still bring us tranquility and peace, let us honor as befits the memory of our heroes, and we in turn pass on to future generations the lesson of dignity, as it was taught to us by our brave forefathers . May God reward the love of country, courage and sacrifice of those who are no longer among us and may they rest in peace.

We will honor you and never forget you! Honor, Respect and Gratitude to war veterans!“, the mayor said Cristi Misailă.
