Szabo Csongor Zsolt, the drummer of the band JazzyBIT from Timisoara, turns 33 today, on which occasion we wish him a warm “Happy Birthday!” Szabó Csongor-Zsolt discovered his passion for music at the tender age of three, thanks to the concerts he attended with his father.

“It all started at the age of three. My father is an accordionist and I also participated in several events where he played. During the break between innings, his drummer would pick me up, hold my hands, and play a beat. This is where the passion for drums and percussion instruments started. In the fourth grade I was enrolled at the “Miron Neagu” School of Music in Sighisoara and that’s when I started my career as a percussionist. The first appearance in front of the public was two months later, at the music school auditions. Since then I have had over 640 concerts with bands of several musical genres and symphony orchestras”, says the artist born in Sighisoara.

Over time, the artist also performed in pop-rock, ska-punk bands, brass bands and symphony orchestras and, after graduating from the Sigismund Toduţă Music High School in Cluj-Napoca, Szabo also graduated from the Percussion section of of the Faculty of Music of the University of West Timișoara, being part of the JazzyBIT band.

Jazzybit – the band made up of Teodor Pop (piano, keyboards), Mihai Moldoveanu (bass) and Szabó Csongor-Zsolt (drums) held its first concert on February 2, 2012. The debut album of the band from Timisoara, “Touch the Sky” was launched on April 2, 2014 in the concert hall of the “Ion Vidu” National Art College in Timisoara. The second record in the band’s career, “Horizon”, was also released on February 2, 2016. Teodor Pop, Mihai Moldoveanu and Szabó Csongor-Zsolt chose to record this record in Budapest, at the famous studio SuperSize Recording.

The band’s third album is called “Drive”. The graphic concept and album cover were created by Ovidiu Hrin, and the album was composed throughout 2020 and was recorded in the SuperSize Recording studio in Budapest. The album was mixed at The Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, New York City by John Davis, producer who won the 2019 Grammy Award for Best Jazz Instrumental Album (Brad Mehldau – “Finding Gabriel”). The disc was mastered by Alex DeTurk, the resident mastering engineer at The Bunker Studio in New York, who has mastered albums for David Bowie, D’Angelo and Kamasi Washington and is the holder of two Grammy awards.

In February of this year, the boys performed a special show that marked the 12-year anniversary of the JazzyBIT band, in the Timișoara Pixel club, where the boys who have performed so far in 20 countries around the world prepared a special show, which worked out to the smallest detail and they enjoyed sincere applause from the large audience,
