The Orthodox Diocese of Oradea is increasing the ranks of those who criticize the priest-director Ciprian Mega, parish priest of the Church of St. Spiridon in Oradea, for his visit to Moscow, where he participated in a film festival and met with President Vladimir Putin.

At the request of the PressOne editorial office, which published an article about the priest from Oradea, the film “21 rubies” and the controversial visit to the Russian capital, the Press Office of the Diocese of Oradea reported that Ciprian Mega did not have the consent “from the local Chiriarch, nor for the making of the film nor for its promotion”.

However, it seems easy to understand that such an agreement would have been impossible to ask for and receive, given that in the movie “21 rubies” the Orthodox bishop Sofronie is also interpreted, presented as a prelate participating in a chermez, where he feasts and drunk

At the same time, the Orthodox Bishopric of Oradea shows that Mega’s gesture overshadows his status, also touching the sensitive sphere of current geopolitics.

“It is as clear as possible, the sacramental dignity of a priest cannot be temporarily suspended or selectively assumed according to personal interests. That is why the logic of church order excludes the option of having gone to Moscow only as a film director or as a private person. His gesture thus overshadows his status as a priest, his actions far exceeding the scope of the Church’s mission and touching the very sensitive and tense sphere of current geopolitics caused by the war of aggression waged against Ukraine,” the Episcopate said, according to PressOne.

It is worth mentioning that, for now, no details are known regarding Mega’s meeting with Putin. Revealed by the controversial pro-Russian figure Cozmin Gușă, and confirmed by the priest from Oradea for Bihor, the meeting took place on Friday. The director priest was invited by Putin personally and attended the meeting alone, which lasted about 20 minutes, under maximum security conditions.

In the last week, the Oradean priest Ciprian Mega was vehemently criticized by representatives of the Patriarchate and civil society, because, together with actor Dorel Vișan, he participated in the Moscow International Film Festival.
