Fleeing from Romania when he was definitively sentenced to 3 years and 4 months in prison, in the case of the illegal retrocession of the royal farm in Băneasa, Romania’s Paul Phillipe was spotted, on Sunday, in a resort in Malta, the Bucharest press announces, citing judicial sources.

According to Hotnews.ro, Paul de Romania, who calls himself a “prince” and is one of the country’s famous fugitives, is in the custody of the Maltese police, and extradition procedures will begin.

Previously, he was found on the territory of France, which country, however, rejected the request of the Bucharest authorities to extradite him.

Paul de Romania has been prosecuted since December 2020, when he was definitively sentenced to prison. In June 2022, he was caught on the street in Paris, carrying a passport issued by the UK authorities.

After a few months of arrest, he was released and placed under judicial control, so that in 2024 the French courts will definitively reject the extradition request, on the grounds that the Romanian court panel that accepted the request was not legally composed. Specifically, one of the judges would not have taken the oath of office.

Romania’s Paul Philippe was sentenced to prison for corruption. According to the DNA, he committed several crimes of influence peddling and giving and taking bribes, between 2006 and 2013, “in various forms of participation, in the interest of obtaining some properties of great value, including the Snagov forest and the Royal Farm Băneasa, claimed without right by the defendant Al României Paul Philippe”, writes libertatea.ro.

Pretending to be a prince, although not recognized as a member of the royal family, Paul Phillipe of Romania is the son of Carol Mircea Grigore (born 1920 in Romania), considered an illegitimate son of King Carol II, who was on the throne of the country from 1930 until his abdication in 1940, in favor of his younger son, Mihai I.
