The conference will start at 9:00 a.m. and will take place at the Palace of the Parliament, in the Rosetti hall. The growth potential of the region in the new global context, the development of the capital and investment markets or the reconstruction of Ukraine are some of the topics of debate.

The CFA Romania Association invites you on Thursday, May 9, at the Palace of the Parliament to participate in the CFA CEE Investment Conference, where professionals from the financial-banking field will meet with the business environment and local public authorities from Central and Eastern Europe to debate the future of the region.

The annual CFA investment conference in Central and Eastern Europe has reached its 10th edition, and the main theme in 2024 is “Capital Markets in Central and Eastern Europe: A new decade of outperformance”. Ziarul Financiar is the media partner of the event.

What growth potential does the region have when the world economy is marked by geopolitical challenges, the energy transition or the need for energy security and cyber security? What challenges and opportunities have arisen for each asset class?

How do we develop the local capital market through stock and bond listings, by improving liquidity and by better governance standards?

What opportunities and challenges exist in the private investment markets? How are we preparing for the reconstruction of Ukraine?

These are some of the topics that will be debated by professionals and specialists in the field, together with the business environment and authorities, during the CFA CEE Investment Conference, which will take place next week in Bucharest.

Alexandra Smedoiu, CFA, president of CFA Society Romania, Margaret Franklin, CFA, president and CEO of CFA Institute, or Alexandru Petrescu, president of the Financial Supervisory Authority, are among those who will address the conference’s themes from the opening of the event.

Anca Dragu, governor of the National Bank of Moldova and Teodora Petkova, Head of Central and Eastern Europe at UniCredit, will also speak at the event. One of the special guests is Martin Ford, author of the bestseller “Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future”.

The speeches of the guests complete the program of the CFA CEE Investment Conference, which is structured on four debate panels in which some of the best-known professionals and representatives of the business environment from Central and Eastern Europe will participate.

In addition to special guests, professionals, regulatory authorities and supranational institutions, CFA Society members from Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Greece, Hungary, Istanbul, Kazakhstan, Poland, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia and Ukraine will be present.

Under the theme “Capital Markets in Central and Eastern Europe: A new decade of outperformance”, the conference will address the rate and direction of growth and development of the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which are on a relatively stable trajectory of economic and social convergence with the countries of Western Europe.

This trajectory is reflected both in macroeconomic indicators, such as a more accelerated growth of GDP, an increase in income, expenses and savings, as well as in the capital markets, where there is quantitative and qualitative progress, there are pension funds, new asset classes and internationally relevant listings.

The participants in the debate will analyze the performance of the region in the last decade, a decade marked by the Covid crisis and a war close to the border of the European Union, in order to better understand what the next decade could bring us.

The main objective of the event is to celebrate a decade of excellence in financial education and to bring together professionals from the CFA community and their guests, to facilitate the exchange of experience and contribute to the development of the financial market in Romania.

Martin Ford, author of the book “Rise of the Robots: Technology and the Threat of a Jobless Future”, is the keynote speaker at the CFA CEE Investment Conference
