The “Alexandru Ștefulescu” County Museum in Târgu Jiu is hosting the opening of the exhibition “The Girl from the Garden” by the artist Andrei Costache. The exhibition can be visited until May 20.

The event will take place on Tuesday, April 30, 2024, from 5:00 p.m.

An invocation of a spring day, a refreshing sense of wonder, realized in Andrei’s bold colors, applied to canvas, wood, ceramic and paper.

The works come from far away, from unknown lands, they currently arrive at Târgu Jiu, as if they had been made. The inflatables make up an amazing trio, where the real magic is in the playful shapes.

Costache tries to capture a moment of total stillness in nature and shares with boundless love the immense forces of the material that compose these art objects.
He understands that conformity itself is absurd, but he does not allow himself to be easily trapped and runs away with the vision
artistic close to an infinite thought. We wonder if the girl in the garden is Eve herself.
Smiling dragoons protect the world in which the girl appears, sometimes informant, sometimes childish. Andrei’s world is always full of surprises, but what surprises us more is the consistency with which he works.
For the first time at Târgu Jiu, Andrei Costache brings with him an impressive force of manifestation, which also winks at Brâncuși. AC, as he goes by his signature, studied art in London with an MA in Creative Sculpture at the Slade (UCL).

“Andrei Costache offers the visitor a foray into a world of stories, which attracts through pastel and happy colors and childlike representations, essentialized in lines, contours and shapes. The artist plays with two and three dimensions with an ease that helps us imagine what kind of visions populate his inner world.
The girl from the garden, the central character of this exhibition, is a pretext for the calm atmosphere that Andrei Costache suggests: a suspended moment, at the beginning or end of Time, in a garden – a mirror of the Garden of Heaven or perhaps Mother Nature herself in an ideal and idealized, uncorrupted form. We don’t know if it’s a dream of the beginning or the end, we don’t know if the artist is nostalgic for what was or if he aspires to a return to primordial states, thus succeeding in a transformation (or even exorcism) of the current world”, says Dorina Cioplea -Widow, museographer
