“Everything is for sale,” says Alin Burcea, president of the National Association of Romanian Travel Agencies (ANAT) and owner of the Paralela 45 agency.

However, it shows that sales are more weighted than last year due to high inflation, which affected purchasing power, and the election, which involves many people in the campaign and electoral process.

The head of ANAT expects 25,000-30,000 Romanians to go to the Coast once the season opens. But the number would actually be much higher.

“According to estimates, we will have 25,000-30,000 people on the Coast. But this is organized tourism, there will also be those who go ad hoc, plus those who go to private accommodation, namely those with the key on the side of the road and those who go to Airbnb and Booking.com”, declared Burcea.

Those who prefer a more secluded or religious environment choose spa resorts or areas such as Maramureș and Bucovina, he added.

“The Turks have learned to make red eggs for us”

Instead, Romanians who choose destinations abroad go to Greece, Turkey and Bulgaria.

“On the external side, there are 10 charters only on Antalya (Turkey – no), where last week it was 34 degrees. The Turks have learned to make red eggs for us. In Greece, likewise, we have at least 15 island charters, especially Rhodes and Crete. But there are also those who go by car to the north”, says the head of ANAF.

Bulgaria is also in the top, but it is not so cheap anymore. “Bulgaria, which is just a few steps away, also sold well, the hotels are a bit better than here, but the prices are no longer the lowest as they were ten years ago. Also, Tunisia is still selling well, but also Tenerife in Spain”, he continues.

Spain, Portugal, Maldives, Thailand

At the Eturia travel agency, Portugal and Spain are the first destinations preferred by Romanians, along with exotic destinations such as the Maldives and Thailand.

“This year, the Easter holidays are somewhat related to May 1st, thus, Romanians have an extended holiday that many chose to spend either in exotic destinations or in Europe”, says Ana Maria Gherasim, manager of sales at Eturia.

Eturia’s best-selling destinations are:
