The child has two more brothers who have now reached the social protection system in Gorj, so they come from a poor family, without any possibility.

According to Antena 3, the child was sold in December, but the authorities only found out now. This is because the family in question was being monitored by the DGASPC, and during a recent visit the Child Protection employees noticed that a child was missing. When they questioned the parents, they revealed that they sold it for 8,000 lei.
Immediately, the rest of the little ones in that family were taken from their parents’ care. The case also came to the attention of the Minister of the Family, Natalia Intotero, who promised that the Romanian state will do everything necessary “for this child to reach home”.

The Court of Appeal gave them 2 years of suspended prison terms, because the issues did not show that “the trafficking of the minor was aimed at exploiting him”. “In the absence of an express legislation of this act of selling the child to another person, even by obtaining some material benefits by the child’s guardian, but in the absence of the purpose of exploiting the child – which must also be proven – the court cannot retain the commission of any criminal acts”, it is specified in the reasoning of the Cluj Court of Appeal decision.
