President of the CJ Sibiu, Raluca Turcan: European funds, a mouthpiece for Romania

80% of the investments of the Sibiu County Council are from European funds: airport, hospitals, infrastructure The liberal administration from Sibiu, together with the president of PNL Sibiu, Raluca Turcan, presented in a TV show dedicated to investments from European funds the long list of awards in the field of local development projects.

Daniela Cîmpean, president of the Sibiu County Council, is of the opinion that European funds are a breath of fresh air for Romania. That is precisely why we must now take advantage of the window of opportunity of these funds, which will not be open permanently for our country.

“Without European funds, Sibiu could not be the Capital of Culture. After that year, Sibiu maintained the level of cultural activities and with important investments we managed to be an important tourist destination, but also a sought-after cultural destination. The Sibiu County Council has the largest budget for culture at this time, compared to the country”, declared Cîmpean.

This detailed the major investments in the county, with an impact both for the citizens of Sibiu and for tourists and for those who transit the county from the heart of the country. 650 km of county roads have been rehabilitated in Sibiu recently. Also, the Sibiu International Airport is the largest investment made here, after the Revolution, namely 64 million euros, through the Large Infrastructure Program. The terminal was built in one year. 18 schools in the county were completely modernized and social centers were built for children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The Minister of Culture, Raluca Turcan: “The cultural model of Sibiu is sought after both in the country and abroad. The international theater festival is an event that attracts many professionals from outside, but also a large audience from abroad. We followed in detail all the mechanisms of the development of a community. Investments bring investments. In Sibiu, we have a vision. We invest with an eye on long-term plans and connected to everything that happens around us.”

The president of the PNL Sibiu said that Romania is going through a period with many challenges, but the liberal administrations in the country are the ones that had remarkable results in the midst of the crisis, as well as the PNL governments: “During the pandemic, the medical system was attacked, it was a fantastic pressure. But because we moved well, we managed to purchase equipment, we created conditions for digitizing the system, etc. All remained. Besides, all the solutions from the crisis period help now. We invested 100 million euros in education in Sibiu. All will lead to a more prepared young generation.”

Related to health investments, at the local level, Daniela Cîmpean stated that she “received phone calls from Sibiu doctors who went abroad after they heard about the new hospital in Sibiu. This is the solution to keeping our valuable people at home. I’ll give you just one example, the new angiography machine at the County Hospital meant an investment of 7 million lei.”

All investments have a single purpose, in Raluca Turcan’s vision – the transformation of communities and thereby keeping young people and valuable professionals at home.

On the other hand, local entrepreneurs and investors need a safe and predictable environment to invest. Cosmin Vâlcu, manager of SC “Conlan” SRL Sibiu, stated that he had a very good partner in the Sibiu County Council and together they were able to comply with the procedures imposed by the European funds.
