“These are false and untrue allegations”

A student at the Faculty of Law in Sibiu accuses the management of the faculty of discrimination and incitement to hatred. The allegations are brought to the management through an online petition, in which the facts that would have led to the incitement to hatred and discrimination against the young woman are presented in detail.

Andreea M. is a student in her last year at the Faculty of Law in Sibiu and is the subject of an online petition that brings serious accusations to the faculty management. The petition shows how the young woman recounts how she became the target of incitement to hatred and discrimination by teaching staff, after her identity was revealed after a complaint made to the dean’s office.

“After a student, Andreea M., reported in September 2023 deviations from the academic norms committed by two teaching staff, reporting with evidence (including a teaching staff with a lot of experience), the management of the Faculty of Law started a whole harassment the address of the student, even a continuous persecution, supported in these illegitimate actions by a limited number of teaching staff within the Faculty of Law, including one of the vice-deans interested in the relationship of the student with the Dean of the Faculty. We show that prior to any referrals a resolution was insisted upon with no consequences, through discussions on the spot, discussions to no avail and with guidance from that vice dean in formulating referrals, that vice dean in January denied saying this. We specify that there is also a referral for discrimination addressed to the competent institution, where an official point of view was also not offered until the requested deadline, which was most likely offered by phone,” the online petition states.

According to the petition, the harassment of the student Andreea M. continued after her identity was disclosed in a complaint addressed to a ULBS Commission. “The student was not asked, as the same Ethical Regulation stipulates, for permission to disclose. We show that anonymous petitions as provided by law are not considered, and the student had the right to identity protection. Even a member of the respective Commission, who teaches courses at the Faculty of Law, was warned in writing by the student herself in November 2023 regarding this aspect, an aspect that remained unclear. Not only a fraud was complained to that Commission, but also a non-academic behavior, behavior not analyzed and not contained in the respective Commission’s decisions”, the petition also states.

The petition states that the incitement to hatred and discrimination would have been done by the Dean of the faculty who would have distorted the reality, a fact that determined the damage to the image of the student. “From the second referral, information from the petition addressed to a former student representative for discrimination was disclosed from within the dean’s office. This aspect was even brought to the Dean’s attention at the end of March, who instead of discussing the situation brought up for discussion, avoided the topic,” the petition reads.

The petition claims that the student was emotionally affected by what happened. “Thus, through deliberate misrepresentation and misinformation, the management of the Sibiu Law School understood to continue these immoral actions. All these pressures led to the physical illness, but also the emotional damage of the student Andreea M. and respectively the start of avoiding the place. These people are the moral authors of the drama overcome by our student, not being the only victim who encounters problems during the academic course. We state that currently, the student, who is in her final year, fears for her safety and freedom, but also for her private life and integrity,” the petition concludes.

The dean of the Faculty of Law in Sibiu, Sebastian Spinei, claims that the statements made by the student are false. “The allegations are false and untrue,” said the Dean of the Law School.

According to Ora de Sibiu sources, at the beginning of April the student was hurt in the faculty yard, after a heated discussion with the Dean’s Office. Read also: Panic in the yard at the Faculty of Law. A woman fell off her feet (photo)
