The “Nae Leonard” Opera and Operetta Theater from Galati was invited to participate in the Puccini Centenary, a festival organized in June by the Bucharest National Opera. The institution from Galaţi will present the opera “Bohemian” (“La Bohème”) in the Capital, in a show scheduled for June 15, from 7:00 p.m., one day before the gala evening, which is reserved for the hosts.

“La bohème” is an opera in four acts by Giacomo Puccini, the libretto being written after the novel “Scènes de la vie de bohème” by the French writer Henri Murger. The world premiere took place on February 1, 1896, at the “Regio” Theater in Turin.

“Bohemian” from Galaţi was staged by the Italian director Paolo Bosisio, a permanent collaborator of the “Nae Leonard” Theater, and the cast that will bring the show to life in the performance in Bucharest is as follows: Mimi – Lorena Puican; Rodolfo – Paul Lungu; Musetta – Lorena Mărginean; Marcello – Alin Munteanu; Schaunard – Dominic Cristea; Colline – Sebastian Bancila; Alcindoro/ Benoite – Elvis Butunoi; Parpignol – Tudorel State; Sergeant/ Customs officer – Daniel Nistor; a ragazzo – Nicholas Filip Negrisanu. The conductor will be Traian Ichim (Brașov), the artistic direction is signed by Paolo Bosisio (Italy), and the scenography by Gheorghe Andreescu.

The Galaţi premiere took place on January 24, 1970 (directed by Nicolae Ciubuc, conductor Gabor Kiss), “Bohemian” being recreated within the “Leonard” International Festival, the 17th edition (directed by Bosisio, conductor Gheorghe Victor Dumănescu – Cluj-Napoca), on June 5, 2022.

The third edition of the Bucharest Opera Festival will take place between June 7-16, with the participation of the most important opera and ballet theaters in Romania, which, together with guests from abroad, will bring to the audience no less than eight productions from the creation of the great Italian composer Giacomo Puccini, whose death in 2024 marks one hundred years.

The program announced by the National Opera includes the most prestigious Romanian musical institutions, those from Iasi, Cluj-Napoca, Timisoara, Constanta, Brasov and Galaţi, along with the Hungarian State Opera from Budapest and the Daegu Opera Festival from South Korea. It is estimated that over 1,500 musicians, dancers, artistic and technical staff will be present at this edition of the Bucharest Opera Festival.
