A building under construction in the town of George, South Africa has collapsed, trapping 47 workers under the rubble. One person died, and several evacuees are said to be in serious condition.

The building, which has five floors and an underground parking, collapsed for reasons still unknown.
Chantel Edwards, spokeswoman for the municipality, announced that there were about 70 people on the construction site. 22 of them were hospitalized.
Mario Ferreira, a representative of the NGO Gift of the Givers, told AFP that rescuers were able to communicate with some of the people trapped under the rubble. Search and rescue operations continue.
Ferreira also stated that some of the evacuated people are “severely injured”.
