Police officers from the Territorial Service of the Border Police (STPF) Galaţi detected a man who was transporting 64 kilograms of fish, of which 24 kilograms of mackerel and 40 kilograms of trout (a rare species of sturgeon, the fishing of which is prohibited) .
The flagrant incident took place on Thursday, April 25, around 10:00 a.m., during a specific mission to combat fish poaching, when a Border Police crew stopped, for control, on the left bank of the Danube River, at the Bac Crossing point from Galați, a car driven by a Romanian citizen, aged 44, domiciled in Galați county. During the control, three raffia bags containing different species of fresh fish were found in the trunk of the car, for which the man could not present supporting documents, which is why the man was taken to the headquarters of the Galati Border Police, for checks additional.
“Following the control, the amount of 64 kilograms of fish resulted, of which 40 kilograms of the trout species and 24 kilograms of mackerel. The mackerel was handed over to a commercial company for utilization in the interest of the state, and the trout was returned to the natural environment , in the presence of workers from the National Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture. In the case, a criminal case was drawn up for committing the crimes of fishing, possession, transport and sale of sturgeon caught on the territory of Romania, as well as for the possession, transport or the commercialization of fish and other aquatic animals without legal documents, upon completion the necessary legal measures will be ordered”, explained the spokesman of STPF Galați, commissioner Sorin Ene.
