Two bears were filmed by a video surveillance camera while they were walking slowly on a street in Baia de Fier, in Gorj county, which is declared a tourist resort.
The locals got scared and alerted the authorities. The gendarmes who arrived at the scene did not find them.
About a week ago, a bear with cubs caused panic among the villagers of Polovragi last night. The savages entered a household, killed five goats and injured another. Frightened, the locals lay in wait all night in the rain.
The mayor of Polovragi commune, Gheorghe Epure, said that the bears that attacked the animals in the household were among those relocated to Gorj from other areas of the country, because they were not afraid of people.
“I initially thought it was one bear, but it was a female bear with two cubs. Five goats were killed and another suffered fatal injuries. We have tried all methods of removal by alarming with sirens, lights, horns, firecrackers, stones. They came about 15 meters from us, but they retreated, but they came back every 20-30 minutes, they came back sometimes on the hill, sometimes through the forest. They’re out of hibernation and they’re hungry. There were crews from the ISU, the Gendarmerie, the Police and the security and hunting company”, he declared.
Walking of bears from one locality to another
The mayor of Polovragi believes that the bears should be relocated again: “I think the best solution is to relocate these specimens, because there is a danger of their aggression. The fact that they weren’t scared of firecrackers and that they weren’t scared of the presence of people led us to believe that they were relocated from other areas, because the bears in our habitat get scared and are not so bold. I asked for the bears to be relocated. They will surely return to this household, where they easily found food. The young people from the nearby households stood guard all night long”.
