Alexandru Bourceanu (39 years old), former FCSB captainraged at the coaches from Romania.

Nicknamed “The Gladiator”, the former great midfielder does not agree with the training methods of 2024.

Alexandru Bourceanu:In Romania, from a young age, from 9-10 years old, players go to the mountains, run, do TRX or other crazy things!

Bourceanu is of the opinion that, from a young age, players are exhausted by coaches. The example given by the former footballer is that of hard training in the mountains, as a result of which young footballers suffer in the long term.

Also, Bourceanu believes that some trainers follow the model of Thomas Neubert, the physical trainer who became famous for his Spartan methods.

“The coaches exhausted us. They believe that more training is better. No, doing a higher quality workout is better than having 25 workouts where you’re always at 70% and you’re kept busy.

In Romania, from a young age, from 9-10 years old, players go to the mountains, run, do TRX or other crazy things. It’s hallucinatory! That they saw at the senior level, at Steaua, in 2013, for example, that this works. But if a big team did something, it’s not necessarily a positive example, and in 10 years you don’t have to do stairs, slopes and millions of other things.

Why? Because at 15, 16, 17 years old, you have anterior cruciate ligament, complete injury, injury and it’s over. Or tendon problems. Many youngsters have tendon problems, parents of juniors know. If I strip from the knees up, I can show you something like that.”said Alexandru Bourceanu for gsp.ro.

Florin Gardoș, about Thomas Neubert’s training: “Sometimes we couldn’t get up from the bottom”

Florin Gardoș played for FCSB between 2010 and 2014, before being sold by the red-blues to Southampton in the Premier League. And during this period he worked with Thomas Neubert, who it caused “nightmares” for the players in training.

“Training has changed a lot at FCSB even if Tommy Neubert is still there. He doesn’t work the same way anymore and I actually talked to him about it. At some point he also realized that it was a bit too much. Now I don’t know how much the workouts have decreased in volume and intensity, but it’s definitely not the same.

The training sessions were very long, two or three hours, and we were almost exhausted. Sometimes we couldn’t get up from the bottom and he would give us one more exercise to do. We were somewhat of a special generation and the value of the players also matters. Many times we also had the impression that we were working too much in terms of volume!”Florin Gardoș revealed for Fanatik.
