Professors Mircea Miclea, Dan Micu, Radu Porumb and Attila Simo debate “The future of technical universities” on Friday, from 12:00, in Cluj-Napoca

University professors Mircea Miclea, Dan Micu, Radu Porumb and Attila Simo will participate on Friday, April 26, 2024, from 12:00, in the debate on the theme “The future of technical universities”. The event will take place at Chios Social Lounge, floor 1, in Cluj-Napoca. Entry to the interactive debate is free, based on registrations made here.

“I called 3 other university professors next to me, for a public panel discussion, with whom to address the topic: “The future of technical universities”. We start from the principle that the future is not predicted, but built. Our goal is to propose and publicly discuss several scenarios for building a better future for technical universities”, says Professor Mircea Miclea, who will moderate tomorrow’s debate.

Mircea Miclea is the president of the UNESCO Chair on Higher Education Management and Governance, professor of applied cognitive sciences at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca, researcher. He was the youngest head of department in the history of the University, chancellor of UBB, founder of the cognitive school in Romanian psychology. Minister of Education between December 2004 and November 2005, he was for 5 years the president of the presidential commission that produced the Report for the analysis and development of policies in the fields of education and research, a diagnosis that formed the basis of the National Pact on Education signed in 2008 by all political parties and then based on the Education Law no. 1/2011, massively modified by successive governments in the last 12 years. Doctor in psychology and with a master’s degree in business administration, Mircea Miclea is the founder of the Cognitrom Research and Development Institute, which develops products at the intersection of psychology and technology, three of which are paxonline.net, depreter.ro and cognikit.ro.

Little Dan is a professor at the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, where he teaches Numerical Methods, Complements of Mathematics, Electromagentics (course in English) and Green Buildings at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering. During 2017-2018 he was a Fulbright senior professor at the University of Florida, Electrical and Computer Engineering, USA, from 2019 to 2021 he was a visiting professor at Beijing Jiatong University in China. He has a double degree in Mathematics (at Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca) and in Industrial Energy (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca), with a doctorate in Electrical Engineering with research internships at Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He managed 6 international research grants obtained through competition, was project manager in 3 national research grants and in 16 industry projects. Since 2020 he is the president of the Research Commission of the Senate of the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, and since 2010 he is the director of the Energy Transition Research Center. He carried out more than 50 research and teaching internships at universities abroad, including the University of Chicago, USA, Ecole Normale Superior Lyon, France, Oita University, Japan. Radu Corn he is a professor at the Faculty of Energy of the Politehnica University of Bucharest, he has a doctorate in electrical engineering obtained at the Politecnico di Torino, Italy, and the energy engineering diploma obtained in 2001 at the Politehnica University of Bucharest. Since 2016, he has been coordinating doctoral students in the field of Energy Engineering. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) as well as the National Standards Organization. See here the full CV of Professor Radu Porumb

Attila Simo is Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Energy Engineering at the Politehnica University of Timișoara. He teaches the courses Information Technology and computer programming (C/C++, C#), Programmable automata in electroenergetics (Siemens, ABB), Integrated Systems Testing, Electroenergetic Audit and conducts research within the Research Center for the Analysis and Optimization of Electroenergetic Systems Regimes. He is a Member of the Senate of Politehnica Timis University and of the IT Commission of UPT. He obtained his PhD in 2014 with the thesis “Dynamic planning of the expansion of electricity transmission networks using artificial intelligence techniques”.
