A yoga instructor from Bucharest is accused of recruiting eight women whom he sexually exploited and from whom he obtained 1.4 million euros.

According to the Stirileprotv.ro website, the yoga instructor’s name is Eugen Mirts and he is a former disciple of the controversial Gregorian Bivolaru, leader of the Spiritual Integration Movement towards the Absolute (MISA) sect.

Mirts is being investigated, along with four other people, in a file regarding crimes such as the establishment of a criminal group organized for human trafficking and rape, during which 13 home searches were carried out in the Capital on Thursday.

“On 25.04.2024, the police officers of the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest – Criminal Investigation Service Sector 5, together with prosecutors from the Directorate of Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Central Structure, implement 13 search warrants at home, within the radius of the city of Bucharest, in a criminal case regarding the commission of the crimes of forming an organized criminal group, human trafficking and rape,” the Capital Police reported, according to Hotnews.ro.

The facts in which Bivolaru’s disciple is involved would have taken place between 2012 and April 2024.

The yoga instructor, who would have been the leader of the group, would have taken advantage of their vulnerability and, under the pretext of a spiritual evolution, sexually exploited them, forcing them to produce and distribute pornographic materials on various platforms specialized for his material benefit and of the other suspects in the file.

The victims were housed in the apartments owned by the suspects and were provided with the necessary logistics for the video chat activities.

The members of the criminal group opened bank accounts to collect the money obtained and strictly controlled the performances of the victims on the video chat.

The investigations also revealed that in the summer of 2019, the leader of the group had a sexual relationship with one of the victims, taking advantage of her inability to express her will.

The evidence collected so far shows that the suspects obtained around 1.4 million euros from criminal activities.

The hearings will take place at the headquarters of the Directorate for the Investigation of Organized Crime and Terrorism – Central Structure.
