Black eagle shot on Romanian territory, found and cared for by the volunteers of a Mures association – News from Mures, News Targu mures

Several volunteers from Mureș County, members of the Milvus Group, an Association for the Protection of Birds and Nature in the county, found an endangered black eagle, which was shot over our country, after being tracked by GPS while traveling through several countries in Europe.

The bird of prey was found by the volunteers of the Milvus Group from Mures who were following its flight via GPS, noting that the eagle has been following an unnatural trajectory for some time. The bird is now in the care of veterinarians, and the authorities are trying to find the person responsible for her injury.

“I’ve been following Fremuth’s (bird’s name) track for the past three years. He spent last winter in the Alps, in Austria. Before, he spent the winter in Serbia and also entered Romania on other occasions“, said the environmentalist Zeitz Robert, the vice-president of the Milvus Group, according to observatornews.ro.

Shot down on Romanian territory

After more than three years in which Fremuth was tracked by the ecologists of Mures, during which he had an extensive and complex route, the black eagle was shot with an alice weapon, somewhere above Banat. “He was quite weak and in a damaged condition. The diagnosis was a clavicle fracture, which in birds has a very serious prognosis. I gave him first aid. We cleaned the wounds, gave him painkillers and put antibiotics”, explained the veterinarian Dr. Borka Vitalis.

Shortly after its strike, several volunteers from the county, who were following the eagle’s path, noticed that its trajectory changed suddenly, a sign that it was injured. Without thinking too much, they went in search of him, indeed finding him injured in a forest. After it was found, the bird of prey was urgently taken to the veterinarian, where it is currently under the careful monitoring of doctors.

“He has crossed over 10 countries already and many enthusiasts and ornithologists have followed Fremuth’s movement. They took many pictures, everyone was waiting for him to come to his country. So it is an example that has built a group of enthusiasts, fans“, Zeitz Robert also said.

The ecologists of the Mures association Milvus Group are downright outraged by the unfortunate incident that Fremuth went through. For now, no one knows if the eagle will ever be able to fully recover so that its flight will not be affected. From here, the endangered bird will be transported to Bulgaria to a center specialized in its treatment. This species of bird of prey, the black eagle, has disappeared from Romania, the shot being donated by a foundation in Spain to our Bulgarian neighbors.
