The draft resolution needed only one more vote to pass
The aspect of Brasov in terms of street advertising will not change in the next period, after the local Brasov councilors rejected in the plenary meeting on Thursday, April 25, the regulation for the organization and development of advertising, advertising and display activities in the municipality of Brasov.
According to the draft decision, the municipality would have had restricted advertising areas and expanded advertising areas. It was also supposed to introduce, among other provisions, a design in accordance with the overall image of the street, and the excess of “information” would no longer be allowed.
During the plenary session, the chief architect of the municipality of Braşov, Dragoş Oprea, declared that the approval of a new advertising regulation is necessary, among other things, “to protect the built heritage of the city”.
For his part, the mayor of Brasov, Allen Coliban, declared that “it is very important to approve and impose this regulation, if we care about our city”.
The arguments of the mayor and the chief architect were not convincing, because the draft decision did not obtain the 13 votes it needed to be approved. More precisely, of the 25 councilors who expressed their option, 12 voted “for” and 13 abstained. The elected officials who did not agree with this regulation did not give reasons for their choice.
Currently, at least the historic center of Braşov is “strewn” with advertisements of all shapes, colors and sizes and light intensities.
