The people of Cluj are invited to enjoy the fresh air and urban nature in a very special way on a “Gardening May Day”! Someșană Transilvania Urban Garden in Manăștur opens its doors from 10:00 a.m. for a guided tour and a relaxing picnic in the heart of a lively community garden. This green oasis, officially recognized by the authorities, is an example of how public spaces can be transformed into places of meeting and refuge for the community.
The event is not only an opportunity to spend time in nature, but also a moment to discuss the future of green spaces in Cluj. Public policy proposals and a new regulation could make these community gardens a model replicated throughout the metropolitan area, bringing health, socialization and relaxation benefits to thousands of residents.
Before enjoying your picnic, you will have the chance to join hands with other Cluj residents in a gardening activity, a practice with deep roots in the history of the local community. It’s a perfect way to rediscover the city’s gardening traditions, which date back to the 19th century.
The meeting will take place at Grădini Mănăștur station and from there, the group will follow the route that could become the Alley of Community Gardens – the dream of having the longest pedestrian alley in the neighborhood. It is a unique opportunity to see how gardens can be protected and valued, even in the modern urban context, with affordable prices carefully set for all residents.
