The man who sexually assaulted a woman in a hotel room in Alba Iulia, sent to court

A particularly dangerous aggressor, who raped a woman in a hotel room in Alba Iulia, was sent to court again. The incident took place on the night of January 29 to 30, 2024. The man was previously convicted of rape, murder, robbery and other serious crimes.

Ioan Muntean, from Hunedoara, has a sentence of 22 years in prison, for particularly serious murder, robbery, rape, but also after escaping from a work point of the Aiud prison.

He was released on parole at the end of 2018, only to commit a robbery a few months later, with a female victim. He was sentenced again, to five years in prison, being released on condition in November 2023, by the decision of the Deva Court, which was not appealed.

He remained at large for only two months, until the end of January 2024.

“It was thus noted that on the night of 29/30.01.2024, the injured person, who was engaged in prostitution activities, being in a room in the Cetate Hotel, was forced by the defendant (recidivist, convicted in the past for crimes of aggravated murder serious, rape, unlawful deprivation of liberty, escape and qualified robbery) to maintain sexual relations in multiple ways, the defendant using a knife that he brought close to the injured person, including in the rib area and threatening the victim with death, even in the conditions in which the injured person repeatedly asked him to let her go”, sent the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Alba Iulia Court.

On April 19, 2024, the Alba Iulia Court established that the case can be tried. The man has been in preventive detention since the date of the crime.
