After two years of modernization, a new international airport was inaugurated by the authorities. It can process 400 passengers per hour, has a longer runway and can receive both scheduled and charter flights.

We are talking about the International Airport “Delta Danube”, in Tulcea, the second airport of this type in Dobrogea, next to Mihail Kogălniceanu in Constanta.

As a result of the construction of the new terminal, the passenger processing capacity at Tulcea Airport has increased from 50 persons/hour, as it operated in recent years, to 400 persons/hour. Thus, the airport currently meets the standards required by airlines for the operation of regular and charter flights.

“This terminal is equipped with all the facilities for processing passengers, it complies with Schengen and non-Schengen standards. So we have two Schengen and non-Schengen terminals, a mobile bridge. This mobile bridge is not useful because the Schengen area regulations require us to between an aircraft operating in Schengen and one operating non-Schengen must have a minimum distance of 200m”, says Stoian Vâlcu, director of Tulcea Airport

The total investment was 180 million lei in two years. So far it has not contracted any flights, but the fact that it complies with Schengen rules gives administrators hope.

“From today onwards the airport receives everything a modern airport should receive. So, from this moment we can talk about flights in Europe and domestic flights in our country”, says Horia Teodorescu, president of CJ Tulcea

The reaction of the Minister of Transport

“These three airports have moved very well in the next period and Cluj will complete the investment. This is something that deserves to be praised.

I am optimistic that as long as this investment has been made, the necessary framework has been created so that traffic at Tulcea airport will be satisfactory”, said Sorin Grindeanu, Minister of Transport.

Tulcea International Airport now has every chance to become the gateway to the Danube Delta for international tourists.

“The hard work is done, I don’t think that’s the problem. The problem is to attract tourists and that’s our job, all of us, the tourism operators. It’s no longer the job of just the airport or just the County Council or just the City Hall or only the tourism operators. It’s our job, everyone’s”, said Dragoş Anastasiu, founder of the tourism operator

Along with the construction of the new terminal, the County Council’s investment also targeted the modernization of the boarding-disembarkation platform, the taxiway and the construction of a platform dedicated to aircraft de-icing activities.
