The modernization works in the center of Cluj-Napoca on Kogălniceanu, the University and the adjacent streets should have been carried out a long time ago, but they were postponed, explained George Trif (USR), candidate of the United Right Alliance for the City Council of Cluj-Napoca, for monitorulcj.ro.

The project to modernize a part of the historical area of the city (Mihail Kogălniceanu str. and the streets adjacent to the University, Emmanuel de Martonne, the north-south axis made up of János Bolyai – Hermann Oberth – Kovács Dezsö, Gaál Gábor and Baba Novac streets) should have to be implemented earlier, but it was postponed, said George Trif, USR candidate for the Cluj-Napoca City Council.

“These are long-abandoned works. They should have been ready 10 years ago. There has been a Pedestrianization Study for many years, which said that the projects must be completed within certain deadlines. Unfortunately, only Mr. Boc can tell the reasons why they were delayed and why the pedestrianization study is being implemented only piece by piece. We cannot expect to see only minimal improvements every term. We need to see strategies developed and put on paper. They must be implemented quickly and on time, otherwise we just push the projects from year to year and life passes us by waiting for projects”, explained George Trif.

“A space restored to Cluj, but of a much too low quality”

George Trif stated that he discussed with the citizens about the modernization of the streets in the city center and they said that indeed the area has been improved. The USR candidate for the City Council explained, however, that the space was returned to the people of Cluj, but at a much too low quality.

“I also spoke with the citizens. It brings an improvement. Before these works, the area was a large parking lot and now finally the space is returned to the people of Cluj. It’s a change that was long overdue. It came much too slowly and at much too low quality. For example, if we look at the furniture, we see that everything is hit, scratched, it seems that it is even second-hand. The situation is the same with the tiles and the materials used”, George Trif (USR) also stated for monitorulcj.ro.
