The payment of the pensions related to May 2024 will be made in advance, the Government is going to approve the draft Decision in this regard in Thursday’s meeting, sources from the Ministry of Labor told Agerpres.

According to the cited sources, the project proposes the advance payment of pensions and other rights provided by special laws in a total amount of over 9.331 billion lei.

Thus, the sum of over 1.961 billion lei from the state social insurance budget and the sum of 339.359 million lei from the state budget are to be transferred to Compania Naţională Poşta Română SA for the advance payment of pensions and other rights provided by special laws, related to May 2024, by postal order.

Also, the amount of 6.347 billion lei from the state social insurance budget and the amount of 683.898 million lei from the state budget will be transferred to the commercial banks for the advance payment of the mentioned rights related to May 2024, in the current account or in the account of card.

The stipulated amounts will be transferred by the National Public Pension House through the territorial pension houses until April 30, 2024, inclusive.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu asked the Minister of Labor, Simona Bucura-Oprescu, to take measures so that pensioners receive their pensions before Easter.

“I am asking Minister Bucura Oprescu to talk to all the banks in Romania, to see what changes need to be made to the conventions – and the Romanian Post – so that all pensioners receive their pensions before the Easter holidays”, said the prime minister, in the beginning of the Government session.

The general director of CN Posta Română, Valentin Ştefan, declared, on Wednesday, in a press conference, that CNPR can distribute pensions before the Easter holidays, but the process depends on the date on which it receives the money.

“The short answer is ‘yes, we can deliver the pensions by the holidays’. Now let me give you some details…May 2nd is a working day. We will work in the company. Secondly, we have the logistical capacity to carry the pensions until the holidays. Now, it depends when the money enters our accounts from the National Pension House, from the Treasury, from the Ministry of Labor. There is a whole administrative flow there. Depending on when we receive the money, we will know whether we will ask the employees to come to work on their days off or not, whether we are talking about May 1 or May 3. Basically, if we get the money later, we would need a single non-working day in which to call them to work to distribute the pensions, but for now we cannot come up with a clear answer, because we do not know when the money enters our accounts. If it enters us in time, there is no need; if they enter us later, we will have to mobilize even better”, said Valentin Ştefan.

He explained that the Post usually receives the pension money a few days before the 1st of the month. Under these conditions, if the money will enter the accounts on Friday, April 26, the pensions will be able to be delivered to the beneficiaries faster. Even if the amounts come in on Monday, all pensions can be taken until the holidays, he assured.

According to the general director of the Romanian Post Office, approximately 14,000 employees are involved in the distribution of pensions, of which 10,000 are postmen.
