Sibiu-Pitesti highway, Lot 3 Cornetu-Tigveni: “The project for the construction permit, submitted at the end of the month” VIDEO

A new field visit by representatives of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) shows how much progress has been made on the most expensive highway section in Romania, between Vâlcea and Argeș counties.

One of the two mountain lots of the Sibiu-Pitesti Highway, between Racovița (Cornetu) and Tigveni, is at the end of the design phase, with the submission of documents for the start of the execution phase expected at the end of this month.

Meanwhile, on Lot 3 of A1, the drilling of test piles has started, for their testing. The drilled piles represent the solution for supporting the highway structure with the least amount of settlement effort, practically its deep foundation, considering the large number of bridges and viaducts that the mountain section between Vâlcea and Argeș provides.

And it is hoped that the contractor WeBuild will repeat the mobilization he had on Section 5 of the Sibiu – Pitesti Highway, where the works are well ahead of schedule.

“The drilling of test piles, necessary to test them in the geotechnical conditions specific to the area, has begun – in total, 21 test piles will be drilled, three piles each in seven different areas of the site. So far, piles have been drilled in four areas, and their compression and pullout testing will also begin at the end of the week. Their drilling depth varies between 25 and 40 meters”mentioned in a post on his Facebook page Irinel Ionel Scrioșteanu, state secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI), following the field visit.

Deforestation, finally

The cited source also mentioned the status of the other stages in the design phase of Lot 3 Cornetu-Tigveni on the Sibiu Pitesti Highway: “The research activity of the archaeological sites is ongoing. The deforestation activity outside the Forestry Fund has been completed, but that within the Forestry Fund is being completed”.

The archaeological sites that are still being researched are those from Bârsestii de Sus – Tigveni (Site no. 1) and from Rudeni – Șuici (Site no. 3). A series of discoveries of extraordinary importance were made here, of vestiges stretching from the Iron Age to the contemporary one and which are related to the Fergile Culture, necropolises and Getic, but also medieval settlements, as well as the “Battle of Sălătrucu” from the First World War.

Work in full swing at the highway construction sites in Racovița and Cepari

In addition, construction works are in full swing for the construction sites in the Cepari – Argeș commune, where administrative offices and own asphalt and concrete stations are to be located on a plot of seven, but also in Racovita – Vâlcea, where also on a plot of land of four hectares, in addition to the offices, there will be a laboratory, two concrete stations and a precast range.

The Cornetu – Tigveni mountain lot provides for the construction of 37.4 km of highway (5.3 billion lei, excluding VAT), which will include the most bridges and viaducts – 96 in number, the longest highway tunnel in Romania, with a length of 1.7 km, an ecoduct in the Călinești area, which will cross the Olt River, the railway and DN7, as well as two road junctions – at Cornetu and Rudeni, two service areas and a Maintenance and Coordination Center.
