Marcel Ciolacu announces an important change regarding salaries in Romania. According to the prime minister, the European minimum wage project will also be implemented in our country. However, this cannot be done from scratch and requires several steps.

The European minimum wage project will also be implemented in Romania, says Marcel Ciolacu. According to the prime minister, every country in the European Union will comply when we have a European legislation.

Marcel Ciolacu says that a correlation must be created between the minimum wage and the European minimum wage

The head of the PSD also emphasized that a correlation must be created between the minimum wage and the European minimum wage. In his opinion, the first is reaching a salary of 3,700 lei. Afterwards, we will have a negotiation with the unions and employers.

“A correlation must be created between the minimum wage and the European minimum wage. I think the first step is to go with the salaries at 3700. We will have a negotiation with the unions and employers, as is normal, and from that moment we will come up with the European rules.

Equal pay for equal work across Europe. This does not mean that if you win a euro in Italy, you will automatically win a euro in Romania, but through certain coefficients introduced, things should go in that direction.

You can’t do it all at once because you would bring your own economy to its knees. You win the election…the operation succeeds, but the patient is dead. A European legislation is being made and slowly, slowly all the states align. It is one of the best measures for Europe, in my opinion,” said Marcel Ciolacu on Romania TV.

How the European minimum wage will be calculated

The Prime Minister provided more information before the Government meeting. He says that he recently asked the Minister of Labor to make public the draft law on the adoption of the European minimum wage in Romania. This will happen after Easter.

Thus, the first information on how the European minimum wage will be calculated should be known.

“We have in the Ministry of Labor a very important draft law on this topic, the one regarding the adoption of the European minimum wage in Romania. I am asking Minister Bucura Oprescu that, immediately after the Easter holidays, we put this normative act in public transparency, so that there is a clear calendar for dialogue with the business environment and the unions”, said Marcel Ciolacu before the Government meeting.

A significant step towards the alignment of revenues from Romania with those from other EU states has already been made by the announcement of Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu. He promised to raise the minimum wage to 3,700 lei starting July 1.

The next target, assumed by the government program, is that by January 1, 2025 no full-time employee earns less than 500 euros net monthly.

PSD proposes to introduce the European minimum wage in Romania, considering decent living and working conditions.

The party emphasized that this initiative aims to establish a framework to ensure an appropriate level of legal minimum wages.

Another objective is to promote collective bargaining to set wages and improve workers’ effective access to minimum wage protection rights.
