PNL Prahova announced on Wednesday that Iulian Dumitrescu submitted his candidacy for a new mandate as president of the County Council. Dumitrescu is prosecuted by the DNA in a corruption case and announced in February that he was retiring from the position of president of the Prahova county organization. The general secretary of the PNL, Lucian Bode, lets it be understood that Dumitrescu submitted his candidacy without having validation from the center, respectively from the National Political Bureau. As a result, Bode announced that he has sent a notification to the Arbitration Commission of the PNL, and that he is waiting for an opinion related to article 86 of the party statute, namely an interpretation regarding the powers of the National Political Bureau regarding the validation of candidacies.

“We had a videoconference with the general secretaries, during which the general secretary of the Prahova organization informed us that the Prahova organization intends to submit this candidacy of Iulian Dumitrescu for the position of president of the County Council. Later I received this confirmation, the organization decided to apply to the BEJ. Discussing with Mr. President Ciucă and colleagues from the party leadership, I made the decision to address the Arbitration Commission, as general secretary of the PNL, and request a point of view regarding the interpretation of article 86 of the statute, namely the powers of the National Political Bureau. BPN validates on the proposal of the county coordination councils the candidacies for the position of mayor of the county seat, the mayor of the municipality of Bucharest and the mayors of the sectors, in the interpretation of our colleagues from Prahova. Consequently, they considered that there is no need for the BPN’s validation for the candidacy of Dom Iulian Dumitrescu for the presidency of the County Council”, said Bode, quoted by Agerpres.

PNL Prahova said that the decision to support Iulian Dumitrescu’s candidacy was taken “following discussions with mayors and other local elected officials”.

“It was not a simple decision, but, out of respect for the people of Prahoven and for the local elected officials, I decided to run for a new mandate and to provide continuity at the level of the County Council. Together with these people – mayors, vice mayors, local and county councilors -, we managed to do in 3 years in Prahova what was not done in 30 years before. We have contracts with European funds of over three billion euros. We started extremely necessary infrastructure projects: the belts from Comarnic, Azuga – Buşteni, Mizil, Păuleşti, Câmpina. We modernized the County Hospital and today we have the most modern operating theater in Romania. We started works to expand the sewerage and water supply network in 42 localities of Prahova County, worth almost one billion euros. We managed to build the gas network in the towns of Valea Slănicului and the connection to the gas main follows. We equip schools in 59 localities with state-of-the-art digital equipment, furniture, teaching materials and specialized equipment. They are concrete, punctual and measurable things. They are not words, they are not promises, but realities that measure the things I have done for Prahova as the president of the County Council”, Iulian Dumitrescu said in a press release.

In relation to the criminal case against him, Iulian Dumitrescu declared that he has the legal and constitutional right to run for office, collaborates with the criminal investigation institutions, considers himself innocent and expects a quick solution from the Justice.

Iulian Dumitrescu is being prosecuted under judicial control by the DNA for allegedly receiving a bribe of 16 million lei out of 47 million requested for a contract with public money.
