“We had a video conference with the general secretaries, on which occasion the general secretary of the Prahova organization informed us that the Prahova organization intends to submit this candidacy of Iulian Dumitrescu for the position of president of the County Council. Later we received this confirmation, the organization decided to submit a candidacy to the BEJ. Discussing with Mr. Ciucă and colleagues from the party leadership, I made the decision to address the Court of Arbitration, as general secretary of the PNL, and request a point of view regarding the interpretation of article 86 of the statute namely the competences of the National Political Bureau. The BPN validates the county coordination councils’ proposal for the position of mayor of the county, the mayor of the municipality of Bucharest and the mayors of the sectors, in the interpretation of our colleagues from Prahova. Consequently, they considered that it is not need the BPN’s validation for the candidacy of Dom Iulian Dumitrescu for the presidency of the County Council,” said Bode.

He added that on Thursday there will be a meeting of the National Political Bureau (BPN) of the PNL, where the subject of Iulian Dumitrescu’s candidacy will be discussed.

“Tomorrow (Thursday, ed.) we will have BPN, we will validate the candidacy of Mr. Nica for the position of mayor of Ploiesti, we also have a few more candidacies to validate, Oradea, Mr. Burduja in Bucharest. We will discuss this aspect as well. I am waiting for the opinion of the Court of Arbitration”, stated Lucian Bode, for Agerpres.

The general secretary of the PNL, Lucian Bode, was present, on Wednesday, in Târgovişte, at the launch of the PNL Dâmboviţa candidates for the local elections.

Lucian Bode: PNL has the possibility, the will and the skill to obtain a score that will surprise at the national level

The president of the Prahova County Council, the liberal Iulian Dumitrescu, investigated under judicial control for acts of corruption, having been banned from exercising his position, submitted his candidacy for a new mandate to the head of the CJ on Wednesday.

“The President of PNL Prahova, Iulian Dumitrescu, submitted today, April 24, the signatures and the candidacy file for a second mandate as head of the County Council. The decision was taken following discussions with the mayors and other local elected officials who requested him Dumitrescu that there should be continuity at the level of the county administration in the context of the projects of over three billion euros from European funds that CJ Prahova managed to attract during his mandate”, the PNL Prahova branch announced in a press release.

The president of the PNL, Nicolae Ciucă, declared on April 18 that the liberals still have to validate the lists of candidates for the county councils and the town halls of the county municipalities for the Bihor and Prahova branches. “At this moment, at the PNL level, I have validated all the lists of candidates at the level of county councils and town halls of county municipalities, because that is the statutory provision. I am left with two branches – Bihor and Prahova. From my perspective, as I have done since every time, I will proceed from here on, respecting the legal provisions and the constitutional provisions. At this moment, I do not have a proposal from the Prahova branch. When I have it, we will make a decision. The decision belongs to the National Political Bureau (BPN)”, said Ciucă, in a TV intervention.

He was asked about the fact that at the level of the PNL Prahova branch a position of support was expressed for Iulian Dumitrescu in view of his new candidacy for the position of president of the County Council. “We do not have the same understanding on the respective proposal, if it came, because at the moment, as I told you, we still have two branches to validate – Bihor and Prahova. (…) We do not have the proposal that enters into the analysis of the National Political Bureau”, replied the PNL president.

Iulian Dumitrescu declared, on April 18, that both the Basic Law and the Party Statute allow him to run in the local elections on June 9, but that it is a personal decision that he must make.

Dumitrescu is being investigated by anti-corruption prosecutors for bribery and false declarations and is prohibited from exercising his position as president of CJ Prahova. He is accused that, between November and December 2022, he demanded from a businessman to purchase, in exchange for the sum of 47,500,000 lei, the shares held by his brother-in-law in a commercial company, value overestimated compared to the real value, and would have received by 04.12.2023 the total sum of 16,210,000 lei. One of the businessman’s companies would have had a contract with CJ Prahova at the time of the claim, and after the acquisition of the shares from Iulian Dumitrescu’s brother-in-law, a new works contract would have been assigned to him with the beneficiary CJ Prahova.

At the same time, the DNA claimed that irregularities were detected in Dumitrescu’s wealth declarations.
