A 45-year-old woman from Dolj was crushed to death while she was at work, and her colleague is in serious condition, after a truck driver hit them hard. The man did not notice the signs of the area where they were working and entered the trailer on which the signs were located. The service car was pushed tens of meters and stopped in the machine with which the two were blocking the road. Between the vehicles, the employees were caught as if in a vise. The two workers were working on National Road 6, near the town of Răcari. At one point, the driver of a TIR traveling on lane 1 did not notice the detour signs and hit the trailer of the service car head on. The assembly was pushed more than 30 meters, up to the machine with which the two workers were blocking the road. The employees of the Regional Road Directorate were caught between the service car and the heavy 3-ton machine, then thrown another 30 meters into a ditch.

The guilty driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel

The driver of the truck is a 68-year-old Bulgarian citizen. He would have told the police that he fell asleep at the wheel and noticed the trailer at the last moment. On the asphalt, brake marks stretch for almost 40 meters. The dead employee was 45 years old. She was married and had a 25-year-old daughter. Her husband is also employed at the same company, and the woman died before his eyes.

The woman’s colleague, aged 54, was rushed to the hospital. The doctors are doing their best to keep him alive.

This is not the first case where road workers have died on the job. In 2022, a drunk driver killed four workers who were digging a canal on a road in Iasi. The woman would have drifted in a parking lot before the tragedy.
