I dreamed that in the high school they would have some teachers who understand how important this period is, who would be their mentors, who would be aware of the role they have in the lives of young people in training. Looks like I watched too many movies.

I fought for a good high school in Bucharest, only to find now that everything was an illusion: my child goes to high school (almost) for nothing. The joy of getting into a good school slowly faded until we came to wonder why there is so much fuss about the National Assessment exam. If the atmosphere is so relaxed at a high school where you enter with an average above 9, I wonder what happens in those considered weak. 9th grade is not at all what we imagined.

At the beginning of the school year, in the first days of high school, he was happy that “they are taken slowly”, to adapt to their new status, to get to know their teachers and colleagues in peace. We had no way of questioning such a strategy. We are only talking about a high school in the top 30 of Bucharest (out of 119 high schools), where the last admission average last year was 8.96. But the months passed and I remained in a bohemia bordering on laziness.

Last year, in the 8th grade, I fought hard to get a high average so that I could get, God, into a good high school. He is not the most conscientious student, but he quickly understood how much the environment in which he works matters. He put in considerably more effort than usual, we opened our wallets wide to pay for the meditations, and the result was a good one. He ended up at one of the very good high schools in the area where we live, with good reviews from teachers and former and current students. We were happy that it is at a profile suitable to the child’s inclinations, with a foreign language studied intensively. It was the perfect scenario for a smooth path to a good BAC average and the desired college.

No day to do all the hours

It’s just that the calculation from home doesn’t match the one in … class. I found extenuating circumstances for teachers from the opposite subjects, although many of my child’s classmates got there because of the average, not because they were passionate about history and social sciences. Some want to go to a technical college in the future, but electronic distribution brought them here.
